ON a sunny morning on Friday 30 September, I set off for the beautiful Lake District, for the COPS Alternative Weekend, writes Don Speakman.

Arriving in Kendal in the early afternoon. The weather was still reasonable (for the Lake District) and I booked into our very lovely hotel. I met COPS President Denis and his wife, and we did a recce to find a venue for our evening meal.

The weather forecast wasn’t great for the next day but after breakfast we were off: Windermere by train, bus to Bowness, lakeside by boat and the Haverthwaite steam railway.

We had lunch in the station restaurant before coming back to Kendal.

At the end of October, Siblings Weekend took place at Lea Marstons in Leamington Spa. Cath and Paul Keylock, who also travelled to the event in Kendal, said it was a great success.

Paul Keylock lost his brother DC Robert Keylock in 2003.

Cath said the event gave people a chance to reflect with others who have been through similar experiences, and gave them a chance to express grief without fear of upsetting others.
