A FIRE fighter from Buckinghamshire has raised £1,000 for Care of Police Survivors.

Mike Downard organised a charity golf day and said he wanted to raise money for a good cause.

So after he met survivor Sue Pyke, he decided he would nominate the charity.

When he heard about the work COPS does to rebuild lives he decided to encourage a little rivalry between the local emergency services.

Fire officer Downard set up a team of colleagues, police officers and police staff who competed with a team from Sue’s home village.

An impressive £900 was raised on the day – which was Sue’s fiftieth birthday – and at her party later, attendees were asked to donate £1 a pint which brought the total to £1,000.

Sue said: “I would like to thank the fire service for nominating a police charity for their fundraiser, especially as it raised a nice sum of £1,000.”
