THE Black Tie Charity Ball held at Derbyshire’s Chatsworth House was a tremendous success, writes Lin Woodward.

The event, held on 19 September, was organised in honour of DC Gary Freeman who was killed on duty 20 years ago.

It was organised by his fiancee Angela Morgan (pictured with COPS Trustee Mick Foster), who worked so hard all year in preparation.

A champagne drinks reception welcomed guests in the Cavendish Room and official photos in the courtyard were followed by a four course dinner in the Carriage House Restaurant. The service was great and the meal was excellent.

A raffle and a silent auction were also held with lots of great, donated prizes and guests were able to purchase their official photos.

Following dinner the main auction of the evening was undertaken by auctioneer Elizabeth Talbot from TV’s Flog It – she did an amazing job.

Many lots had been donated, one of these being a bike which had been used on the Police Unity Tour, which raised a whopping £1,000.

Another prize was donated by HRH Prince Charles – much credit is due to all who contributed to the evening.

The evening got into full swing with entertainment from the Jive Aces – there was dancing, singing and laughter from the band and the audience. Everyone had a great time both on and off the dance floor.

Angela told guests about Gary and how she had found and been supported by the COPS charity. Gary, a detective constable with Derbyshire Constabulary, was killed in 1994 aged 36, in a road collision while on duty – leaving behind the couple’s young son George.

On behalf of our charity I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed, raising over £8,000 for Care Of Police Survivors and a huge, special thank you to Angela for all of her hard work.

It was a swish occasion, everyone had a wonderful time and Angela looked fabulous in her peach ball dress – she was a gracious host.

It was a truly memorable evening.
