THE new Head of Operations from Care of Police Survivors has written an open letter to all survivors.

Richard Kotulecki (pictured) outlines his aims for the charity, his plans for the next 12 months and how he will “begin mapping out the policies, processes, procedures and skills that underpin everything we do.”

Dear All

I have been in post for a little over two weeks and wanted to reach out and introduce myself to all those who, for whatever reason, have not yet heard from me.

I’m sorry there was an error with last week’s mailing…

Last week, to coincide with the newsletter mailing, I wrote to all Survivors for whom we have contact details with a brief explanation of what my role will entail for the next 12 months and a request to verify and update the contact details that we hold. The vast majority of the 300 packs were delivered safely to their correct recipients. Unfortunately, due to a human error, a very small number of people received the wrong details in the post. My sincere apologies for this – I know why this happened and can make sure that it is not repeated in future mailings. I have contacted each of these people individually.

We want to make sure that we have the right details, please get in touch…

One of the reasons for my getting in touch is that it is an opportunity to make sure that we have all the correct contact information for you and we know how you prefer to hear from us. We know that the database that we hold is incomplete – last week’s mailing is an attempt to correct that. So, if you have not had a letter and would have expected at least a newsletter, or the one you did receive does not contain all the information you thought it should, please get in touch – we will correct the database and it will be right for the future.

The next 12 months and this summer’s Survivors’ consultation…

I officially took up my post on 11 May and I am currently planning out my priorities for the year ahead. I am tasked with reviewing the strategy and structure of COPS to ensure long term sustainability, working with the Trustees to ensure that the Board has the right blend of skills to provide sound governance, and to ensure that the day to day operations of COPS run efficiently to support Survivors. I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that this brings.

As this is a new role for the charity, I’d like to give you an outline of what my approach will be. Of critical importance to the future of COPS is that as well as continuing to meet the various and differing needs of Survivors both now and into the future, we can adapt to changing circumstances. So in the next few weeks, I will be opening a consultation with Survivors to learn how COPS has been of most help to you, how it helps now and how it can do so in the future. This consultation will form the basis of a strategic plan of deliverable services to support Survivors – and from this plan the Trustees and I will determine the best long term structure to deliver this support into the future.

At the same time, alongside Trustees, staff and volunteers, I will begin mapping out the policies, processes, procedures and skills that underpin everything we do. From this we will establish where we have any anomalies or needs and what we will do to rectify these.

I look forward to meeting you…

I hope that you will be willing to take part in the consultation later in the summer and if you are attending the Survivors’ Weekend in July, I very much hope to meet you in person then. In the meantime, if you do want to get in touch, please do so via the office number 0844 893 2055 or by email richard.kotulecki@ukcops.org.

With best wishes

Richard Kotulecki
