CARE of Police Survivors is encouraging members of the police family to take part in this year’s Police Unity Tour.

Every year, riders cycle from across the UK over the space of two days – ending at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire at the annual COPS memorial service.

There are still spaces available for the 2016 Tour – and it is open to Survivors as well as serving officers and other members of the police family.

Ch Supt Rob Atkin, who organises the tour, said: “The Police Unity Tour is an opportunity for all those who work in policing or indeed family members to show their appreciation for our colleagues who have lost their lives doing their duty.

“Each rider undertakes to raise much-needed funds for UK Police Survivors, which directly supports family members left behind after a death on duty event.

“Additionally, each rider rides in memory of an individual fallen officer by wearing a memorial bracelet with the opportunity to present this to that officer’s family members.

“The ride concludes at the annual Care of Police Survivors memorial service at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire, which is attended by representatives from all UK Police Forces.”

COPS President Denis Gunn added: “On a personal level, as a COPS Survivor, I cannot begin to tell you how special it is to receive from one of the riders in the Police Unity Tour the wristband that the rider has worn throughout the tour in honour of my son, Richard.

“It really is a magnificent gesture by all riders to put themselves through such a challenge in memory of a fallen officer and the wristband is something I shall always treasure.

“As National President of COPS I never cease to be amazed by the dedication and effort demonstrated by the riders and I can never praise them enough for the huge sums of money they have raised, and continue to raise, for the charity. Well done to you all. You are all stars!”
