MORE than £2,000 has been raised for Care of Police Survivors by officers and staff running the Reading Half Marathon – including some in riot gear!

The team from Thames Valley Police, including Tyrone Powell, Charlene Lillico, Zach Rowe, Steve Bromell, Simone Eissengarthen and Rachel Loveridge tackled the 13.1 mile course at the beginning of April. A spokesman for the group said: “It is a charity very close to our hearts.”

“We are all amateur runners and running 13 miles wearing over 40kg of extra kit, boots and coveralls will be absolutely soul-destroying on the day, but our pain will be worth it for such a great cause.”

He added: “Several of the officers running have never even attempted the distance before, let alone with stones of kit and boots weighing them down.”
